(I’ve got Phil to thank for this one, which he shared last Sunday at Hillview.)

How many Josephs can you think of in the Bible? Give it a think.

1. There’s Joseph son of Jacob, who sang that song about pulling back a curtain.

2. Joseph the carpenter, adoptive father of Jesus of course.

3. Joseph of Arimathea, who wrapped Jesus’ crucified body and put it in a tomb.

Is that it? No- there’s one more. Have a look at Acts 4:36:

“Joseph, a Levite from Cyprus, whom the apostles called Barnabas (which means Son of Encouragement)”.

I’d never registered before that Barnabas was called Joseph. Now, this might remain a completely useless piece of Bible trivia. But the important point is this:

Joe was such a good friend that his friends gave him the name ‘son of encouragement’. Wouldn’t it be amazing to be thought of by people as such a great encourager that they nickname you for it? That’s something I’d like to aim for.
